This 25 year old client asked to have her jaw line strengthened and to balance out the proportions of her face. Chin implants have come a long way from the little buttons that were placed under the skin. Now there are anatomically contoured implants that match the shape and size of the jaw, similar to a glove over the hands.
One of the most frequently asked questions is whether the implant can shift in position during the healing phase? Our approach is to secure the implant with two tiny biocompatible screws at the time of surgery. These screws do not interfere with any CT or MRI scans and cannot be felt.
Another question is how the size is determined for the implant? Chin implants are made in a range of sizes and generally we error on the side of not having the augmentation too large for the face. As we all age, there is some bone loss to the face- especially in the upper lip area. So selecting an implant slightly smaller gives the best long term correction.
