Our patients have been using Latisse for the last 3-4 months and are now all reporting good to terrific results. The following are some thoughts and comments shared with us over this time:

‘Not only did my lashes get longer, and fuller – but darker as well. I no longer pay to have lash tinting done when I do my hair.’

‘When I was sixteen, there were some sunglasses I couldn’t wear because my eyelashes were so long. For the first time in 20 years that has happened again.’

‘I no longer wear any eye makeup as I love my eyelashes the way the are now.’

‘I really didn’t believe that I would see a big change, but wow! The first thing I noticed was that I didn’t have so much eyelash loss. Now I have even more lashes, and they are longer.”

‘People used to comment about my eyes all the time-but that stopped. And now with Latisse, the comments started again.’

We are finding that people are reporting great outcomes from Latisse. The manufacturer, Allergan, expects that their eyelash enhancer market with Latisse will grow as big as Botox.

With advanced injection techniques, you can dramatically change the entire mouth region in one visit. This 50 year young client had some Juvederm gel filler placed to shape her upper and lower lip.

Then Botox (20 units) was added to quiet the dimpling of the chin and to relax the muscles pulling down the corners of the mouth. The result is a relaxed, elegant look to the lower face, with an inviting elevation of the corners, and a more youthful contour to the chin.

Ask for the Botox injection which relaxes those muscles which cause the ‘down in the mouth’ appearance.

Rejuvenation Surgery Doesn’t Need to Look Plastic
In a study of thousands of people who had a facelift or other rejuvenation surgery, the overwhelming number were very happy that they elected to have the surgery. One feature of the study was most interesting, the younger people in the study were generally pleased, however the more mature people were also pleased but added that they wished they would have had the surgery earlier in their lives. This addresses one of the concerns we hear during our consultations, “Should I wait longer until I am older? Should I have a facelift as the last resort?”

The more mature clients, in hindsight, suggest that the best time to go forward with your rejuvenation surgery is when you begin to feel that the aging changes have become noticeable. The most frequent concerns are sagging of the neck muscles and skin, onset of the jowling on the sides of the jaw, and the droop of the eyebrows.

This 25 year old client asked to have her jaw line strengthened and to balance out the proportions of her face. Chin implants have come a long way from the little buttons that were placed under the skin. Now there are anatomically contoured implants that match the shape and size of the jaw, similar to a glove over the hands.

One of the most frequently asked questions is whether the implant can shift in position during the healing phase? Our approach is to secure the implant with two tiny biocompatible screws at the time of surgery. These screws do not interfere with any CT or MRI scans and cannot be felt.

Another question is how the size is determined for the implant? Chin implants are made in a range of sizes and generally we error on the side of not having the augmentation too large for the face. As we all age, there is some bone loss to the face- especially in the upper lip area. So selecting an implant slightly smaller gives the best long term correction.

Male surgery is not the same as for the female client. The aesthetics in men is very different and one consideration is that we do not want to feminize their look. Men’s eyebrows are typically low slung and generally men do not show a lot of their upper eyelid skin.

In Wayne Newton’s surgery, it is more than the missing moustache that changes his look. His newly elevated brow looks youthful, but the amount of eyelid which shows now is too different from his previous look and emphasizes the difference in the size of his eyes.

Dr. Szachowicz really believes in the value of education before any male has rejuvenation surgery. Even for the famous, a more restrained & conservative approach retains the character of the person far better than a dramatic change.

Juvederm Ultra lip and line filler has just launched its new product upgrade – it now contains lidocaine, an anesthetic. This makes the injection of the gel filler much more comfortable, both at the time of placement and for some time afterward. Some people have reported that they don’t require a dental block placed before the injection of the new Juvederm into sensitive areas, like the lips.

So come try out the new, more comfortable Juvederm. Whether this is your first experience with gel fillers, or if you want to experience gel fillers with the lidocaine within, try Juvederm Ultra.

We are proud to show the before and after images of a 66 year old man with a history of acne when younger. As he matured, the acne became more noticeable.

He wanted a procedure which would improve the texture and quality of his skin without damaging his pigmentation or give him a patchy tone to his skin.

After a series of five Fraxel re:store treatments, his pigment became even a smooth and the deep textural scarring was softened.

Our office is starting our fifth year with Fraxel re:store skin laser resurfacing with good improvement in people of color. Out treatment protocols have been tested over time. Dr. Szachowicz teaches as a consultant for Fraxel on both the re:store and re:pair skin resurfacing lasers.

This woman just wanted to reduce the bump on her nose so that her facial proportions appear more harmonious. During her consultation, video imaging was used to help simulate the appearance of a conservative rhinoplasty, and educate her on the nose surgery procedure itself. The image was brought into the operating room to act as a map and reminder of the result that was discussed in the consultation. The third picture is her result at one year, which is very close to her predicted result.

Video imaging helps as a communication tool during the consult. Of course, the image cannot be a guarantee; but just to have the same vision that is in your mind communicated to your surgeon is extremely helpful in getting to the results you anticipate.

Magnesium is sprouting up all over in nutritional circles as a supplement to watch. Stayed tuned in the future for specific dose recommendations, but on average most people can benefit from some supplementation. Tufts University scientists confirmed a long-felt belief that magnesium might play a role in insulin resistance and reduce the risk of developing type-2 diabetes, which is more common as we age. Nicola McKeown, Ph.D. reported that adults consuming more magnesium were less likely to have insulin resistance.

Supplements don’t make up for poor diets, lack of exercise, and excessive weight gain. But those with a strong family history may consider taking more of this mineral.
